Working with Your Own Map Layers

Each account in Survae includes a set of base maps, which includes a variety of Google maps and Esri ArcGIS 2D and 3D maps. Users can bring in their own GIS maps as layers. Survae works with Esri shapefiles, KML and KMZ files.

Once you are logged in to your account, you can upload these layers by two methods. You can use the blue arrow in the header on the left-hand side of the home page (next to the Survae logo). Click on the arrow and navigate to the file you wish to upload and click the upload button. You can also drag-and-drop the file right into your account.

Shapefiles need to be zipped before uploading into Survae.

To work with layers that you have imported, click on the Stack Icon in the upper right corner above any map. Click on the Layers option and you'll see all of your available layer files. Please see the article Viewing Videos with Maps for more details on how KMLs, KMZs and shapefiles work within Survae.

Please note: When you share videos outside the Survae platform, whatever options you have turned "on" for the video (i.e. displaying parcel data) when you hit the "Copy Video Link" is how the viewer with will see it. So if you want them to see the video with a specific layer, make sure to turn the layer "on" before generating the link.
